Those Swedish doom metallers have been around for quite a while, they have released a couple of demos, splits and one EP. “The Wellspring” is actually their first full length album.

In their sound, which is mostly based on this gloomy and obscure atmosphere, we can discover many influences. If you listen carefully you will be able to discover the creeping spirit of REVEREND BIZARRE, mixed with the sound epic and mournful moniker that WARNING presented on their “Watching from a Distance” masterpiece. There are even some touches that are silently opening the gates of this early 90’s funeral doom stuff and even some vocal approaching that will bring into your mind lots of minimal, slow and almost frozen black metal records from our era, mainly thanks to some vocal parts and the overall atmosphere on some parts of the songs.

All this mentioned stuff is finally presented under a quite unique way that at the end of the day would make you to easily realize that “hey this sounds like… Acolyte of Moros”!

Focusing on their long compositions would make you understand that there is a very serious and careful work done on the song’s structuring. While your everyday – talent missing – Doom Metal band of today would mainly go on and on playing one or two simple riffs – because this is the true way -, ACOLYTE OF MOROS would divide their songs in actual parts, adding interludes, main themes, bridges, changes in melodies and riffing and all the usual stuff that would keep the listener’s interest high. I like the way they handle their guitar playing as well. Lots of harmonies, many clean parts and lots of stuff to emphasize their Doom Metal riffing.

This is an excellent doom metal record that really kept me very good company on these winter days that are still going on. I would consider it to be one of the best doom metal releases for the year 2018. You should go out there and check it as soon as possible!

I breathe for music. And I am more than sure that my mission in this universe is to make everybody agree that "Awaken The Guardian" by FATES WARNING is the best album ever released, yes in all musical genres. My next mission is to feed homeless cats and when I am not busy with all this stuff I listen to US Prog / Power and Epic Doom Metal. And I cast spells in rituals in order to awake the old ones.
