Quicksand dream stands for a dream sequence where the dreamer is progressively drawn into sand. The dream implies that the dreamer cannot confront his daily problems and gradually is trapped into a vicious circle. This was the choice for the name of a band formed in Sweden almost two decades ago. The band’s first release “Aelin – A story about destiny” was in 2000 in super limited cdr edition but it was professionally re-issued back in 2010.

Now a couple of years have passed and QD are ready for their second full length album via Cruz Del Sur music.

Musically there are some slight differences compared with the first album but generally speaking the band (perhaps deliberately) hasn’t changed its music vision: well played classic heavy rock/metal with some slight epic elements and a simplistic view on songwriting and performing. Drawing elements from Black Sabbath (mostly the first era), and pumping them up with Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Trouble etc the band delivers a fine dose of classic hard rocking metal with emotional vocals and inspired riffing. Most songs are mid tempo with only a few being catchy with staccato vibe (for example “The girl from the island”) while the solemn vocals create a dreamy, nostalgic, brooding atmosphere.

The band seems to walk straight off the beaten path: only six songs with total running time almost 30 minutes, without touring dates or expensive advertising campaign, not exactly what you could call an ambitious project or a breakthrough record. However this is one of the very few times that I felt like I was drawn into the “quicksand dream” of the band, the internal world of the “daughters of Eve”.

Definitely an album for the few listeners who care to roam in dreamy worlds.
