Yes, it’s official!

The unparalleled 70’s-style heavy metal of CHRISTIAN MISTRESS from the USA is back after a decade! Cruz del Sur had approached them during the “To Your Death” tour when they visited Italy, but it took several years for the partnership to bear fruit.

Now a quartet—following the departure of guitarist Oscar Sparbel—the band consists of Jonny Wulf on guitar and bass, Reuben W. Storey on drums, Tim Diedrich on guitars, and, of course, the phenomenal frontwoman Christine Davis on vocals!

How do they fare after ten years?

The moment you hit play on the album opener, “City of Gold”, you’ll be convinced—they’re ABSOLUTELY KILLING IT! It’s as if not a single day has passed. The explosive energy, the unrelenting grit, and that unmistakably sweet old-school sound surge forward like a hurricane, sweeping you off your feet.

Then comes “Voiceless”. With a bassline that plows through, guitars riffing gloriously, drums pounding to the rhythm of your heart, and Christine Davis in top form, there’s no room for doubt: this is a MAGNIFICENT RETURN!

When you hear how they chose to unravel the final minute of “Demon’s Night”, you’ll also realize that CHRISTIAN MISTRESS know how to pay homage to the old guard of heavy metal and the 70’s sound in a way that’s utterly unique.

The tracklist is a tour de force, with the band in a relentless crescendo of good vibes and striking inspiration. Take “Love of the World”, for example—a stellar piece of evidence that proves the point.

Among the standout tracks for me, the rhythmic and brooding “Mythmaker” reveals the darker, more mysterious side of CHRISTIAN MISTRESS, while “Death Blade” strikes a perfect balance between catchy hooks and a wealth of clever ideas, like the short but brilliant solo nestled mid-track that elevates it to a whole new level.

The album closes with two stunning anthems.
“Lake of Memory” might just be my favorite track since “Children Of The Earth”. Its rhythmic backbone feels like it was pulled straight from the golden days when analog warmth seeped into your soul, and music was a true kind of magic—crafted by artists who had that rare, vital ingredient to make the simple extraordinary: VISION!

And then, the curtain falls with “Shadow”.

My God, WHAT A SONG! A celebration of heavy rock, an ode to Orpheus and lyrical artistry, an EPIC GEM in the pantheon of hard music—simply breathtaking!

If you’re into TOWER, SANHEDRIN, NIGHT VIPER, TANITH, or even THIN LIZZY and UFO, don’t miss this nostalgic journey through another spacetime—where magical realism reveals its full glory.

For these last two tracks alone, a few extra lines are well-deserved…

The “Children of the Earth” title ties to the thread of the lyrics throughout the rest of the songs. The idea for the album came from ancient writings found on a gold tablet or orphic inscription in an unmarked grave within a large necropolis in southern Italy. It is thought to be one of the oldest items of writing ever found. The orphic inscription referred to instructions on how to find the Lake of Memory in the realm of Hades on the journey of the dead. The seeker was to pass by and say, “I am a child of the Earth and starry Heaven”, to pass on to death.

Davis adapted this line and the story from this ancient text to become the basis for the song “Lake of Memory”. From there, the ideas for the rest of the songs came easily.

The band’s singer affirms that “Children of the Earth” is about using what we have to live intentionally. It’s about speaking up for those who have no voice, and it’s about myth and how we ourselves are the mythmakers for future generations. She notes that if we could think of ourselves as the future ancestors that we are, our actions would have more meaning and value. It sounds idealistic, but it’s true.

Thus, in the song “Shadow,” the line “Tonight we could be gods in the Pantheon, we could be anything” refers to the idea that a typical person holds the capacity and probability of creating the myths of future generations.

“Children Of The Earth” will be released on February 28th on both CD and LP by Cruz Del Sur Music.
