What a nice surprise for those who miss the authentic heavy metal soundβ¦ The NWOBHM sound that knew how to keep a balance between melody and power. FALCON was a mid 80s band from that majestic era and here we have its first album that was never actually released as the recording studio caught fire during that period. Of course, besides the album, we have three songs from a demo the band made before the album, so we can say that βEasy Preyβ has everything that FALCON has recorded.
The music of the band is classic melodic heavy metal with no, or very few, hard rock references, so those who like the heavy side of the NWOBHM without rock mixtures will enjoy this release a lot. The album reflects perfectly the sound of 1985 and the βsecond waveβ of British heavy metal that offered many great and legendary albums. We are talking about an era where the sound of British heavy metal became more epic, the characteristic guitar melodies started playing the leading role in a record, and the vocals became even more sharp, crystal and expressive.
The album is great; Amazing melodies everywhere, sometimes carefree and less intense, but most of the times epic and with a US heavy/power mood that launch the album to the highest levels. The fans of TOKYO BLADE, TYRANTβs βHold Back the Lightningβ, VIRTUE, MOSELLE, LYADRIVE, EXCALIBURβs βBitter Endβ, and of course ATTACHE, will not believe what they hear; βTerms of My Surrenderβ, βEasy Preyβ, βAll Through the Nightβ and βThe Fallβ are unique anthems that will leave the fans speechless.
Releases like this one show us how rich and of high quality was the past and that if we are patient, good music will be discovered even today. Miles away from all those contemporary, annoyingly fake Β βheavyβ productions, FALCON return heavy metal to the simplicity, passion and true teenage creativity which have almost become extinct nowadays.
