I always admired artists who ignored music industry’s demands and followed their own path. It takes balls to be true to yourself in a scene that devours everyone who walks off the beaten path. And LIZZY BORDENΒ has always been him against the world. Since the early 80’s, Lizzy has proven to be an insightful and perceptive songwriter and lyricist, who reached the peak of creativity with the “Master of Disguise” album. Since then his albums have been more and more personal, like a musical diary.

Now, eleven years since his previous album,Β LIZZY BORDENΒ has decided to share his thoughts with us.

I’m pretty sure that you have already read the reviews or listened to the album. And I’m pretty sure that you were disappointed by the outcome. To be honest I think that the music is pretty weak: most of the songs are pretty much into the modern rock/metal spectrum, than U.S. power metal the used to be. Most of them have these almost lame “happy” choruses and an unfitting pop tempo. However, not all is lost. Though musically its a huge let down, it does have its moments. For example the title track is powerful enough to save the day or maybe “Perfect poison”, which is another great song.

And as for the vocals, well… things are tough here. LIZZY BORDENΒ has his own unique voice and his eerie tone is still here. If these songs were sung by someone else I wouldn’t bother listening to them, however Lizzy makes the difference. His voice is captivating, haunting full of sentiment and the lyrics are both personal and revealing.

It takes courage to make an album like this. I do believe that Lizzy could easily record another “Love You To Pieces”Β album and throw a “best off” show at Keep it True festival or the like. Yet Lizzy prefers to expose himself to the audience and invite people to join him and his “midnight things”. Listen to the album with an open mind. I know the music is mediocre, however it’s genuine, honest and has a lot of things to say to each and everyone of us…

WARLORD: The legend of William J Tsamis lives – Interview and...

To tell you the truth I was a little bit skeptical when I first learned about the Warlord tribute project set by drummer and founding member Mark Zonder and singer Giles Lavery to honor the music and memory of founder guitarist William J Tsamis who unfortunately passed away back in 2021. I was looking at the facts very closely, reading announcements about forthcoming live shows, new line up and a new album. The response from the fans was massive including both positive and negative (or very negative) comments about the above facts. "How can Warlord exist without Bill Tsamis?", they were asking. One afternoon I got a call from Giles Lavery himself asking me if I wanted to do an advance review of the forthcoming Warlord album. I replied positively still being in this skeptical mood. It all went away after the first listen... William J Tsamis was there. His music, his legend, his compositions, evolved into complete songs. In total excitement I texted Giles a single message "Bill is alive". The very next evening found Mark, Giles and I talking about the album, about Bill, about the music and the legacy. It was late at night when we ended the call. I asked them if I can publish our conversation and they got no problem. So here it is again: Me talking with Warlord. The usual stuff I am doing the last 25 years for various reasons. But this time I would not call this conversation an interview. To my eyes this is a big ethical, artistic and soulful statement, by some people who want to keep the Dream, alive.
