The Scottish band BASTYON return with its second album called โThe End of Reasonโ. The fans of classic heavy metal who liked the self-titled debut a couple of years ago, will enjoy the quartetโs new effort.
BASTYON follow the road that the British heavy metal scene has created during the 80s and the 90s. This means that โThe End of Reasonโ has references that go from IRON MAIDEN and the โVirtual XIโ era, to SAXON and the first three albums of TIGERS OF PAN TANG. So, we have a very classic heavy metal sound which is addressed to those who miss the feeling and the simplicity that heavy metal had back then.
The album has a variety of songs that covers all styles; from melodic, mid-tempo heavy metal to a more speedy/hard-rockish type of tracks. Of course, everything is revolved around the British heavy metal sound but the band seems to like equally the โepicโ and the โdirtyโ side of heavy metal; โPharaohโ (great song), โCarry Onโ (very beautiful track), and โNostromoโ, pay tribute to the nostalgic, mid-paced and epic side of heavy metal. On the other hand, songs such as โThe Jungleโ, โGod of the Deadโ, or โParanoid Failureโ bring out a kind of hard rock character for the band โ this is not bad, but perhaps the mid-tempo style suits them better.
BASTYONโs second album has many moments that can travel the fans back to the times when they listened for the first time some of their favorite records. It is a nice option for those who miss the classic British heavy metal scene, as well as the old-school heavy metal fans in general.
