It seems that BLACK MAJESTY‘s debut album “Sands of Time” was out in another world, another time. Too many things have changed since 2003, with first thing the popularity of European Power Metal but it seems that BLACK MAJESTY don’t give a shit.
Fifteen years after their debut album and seven albums later they stubbornly continue to tread in the path of Europower metal. In case you are not familiar with them just imagine a mixture of early ANGRA with HELLOWEEN, and add some HEAVEN’S GATE, early SCANNER and EDGUY themes. And should you consider that this is just another generic power metal album i would suggest you should listen carefully. Black Majesty though they do not go awry from the usual recipe they do have some profoundly conceptions in their songwriting.
Lingering only to the basic recipe which includes tween lead guitars, high pitched vocals and a steady rhythmic section they manage to impress even the most cantankerous listener. Their carefree melodies together with their catchy choruses and a touch of cheesiness (but not lameness) create an easy listening album that will awaken memories of different times (in case you were around in early 00’s of course). The guitar work is astonishing with precise leads while John Cavaliere as always gives a massive performance.
To make a long story short, “Children of The Abyss” is not a life changing album, but its a fun to listen collection of songs made with respect both to the metal scene and the listener. Enjoy.
