ATTAXE’s first full-length album release, despite being a band that was formed almost 40 years ago, is an occasion that draws attention for several reasons.

The name of the band and their vocalist Juan Ricardo are well known among metal fans who are fond of underground metal music and especially those who are really fanatic with USPM. He is an emblematic vocalist and a well-known personality among USPM aficionados, that still participates or has participated in the past in several projects / bands such as WRETCH, DARK ARENA, BLIND CROSS, RITUAL just to name a few.

The band has been very active in the ‘80’s, releasing six demos and one EP (1990), with a lot of brilliant songs from 1986 to 1990.

Although the potential and the talent has been there since the very beginning, the band didn’t manage to release a full-length album and eventually has been split up in 1990. In 2006 the vocalist of the band, Juan Ricardo, had the idea of releasing all the demos of the ‘80’s in one great compilation release, which had the title ‘’20 Years the Hard Way’’.

The journey of ATTAXE has been revived in 2019, when the band decided that it was about time to be reformed and finally in 2024 are presenting their official debut album.

In this album the listener enjoys 10 songs of pure and genuine US Power Metal. The majority of the songs are mid-tempo and in some of them I’d say that I observed a pinch of progressive approach. The album has an untainted ‘80’s vibe and will satisfy the fans who have immersed deeply in the genre and the specific era.

‘’Braving the Tempest’’, ‘’Devil’s Advocate’’, ‘’Sign of the Snake’’, ‘’Do You Believe?’’, ‘’Can’t Stop the Evil’’, are really good songs, that fans will especially appreciate and are the highlights of the album. The voice of Juan Ricardo remains very strong and expressive as always.

Sometimes when a team gets together after such a long time, it is reasonable that some drawbacks may appear. I have the impression for example, that I was looking forward to a stronger production.

A reformed team has to stay together for some reasonable amount of time, to work its cohesion and offer inspiring compositions and heavy metal anthems like those of the past. The team of Juan Ricardo (vocals), Ray Hitchcock (Bass), Chris Westfall (guitars) and Drew Sodee (drums) is robust and promising.

I believe that it is very important that the band has been reactivated once again and has to offer a lot to heavy metal of today, with this one and their forthcoming releases.

‘’Braving The Tempest’’ has been released on the 30th of August 2024 by Golden Core Records and is available on CD and Digital format.
