WRITHEN HILT are one the best brand-new bands that have been introduced to the heavy metal audience in 2024. Their first endeavor in discography, the splendid EP ββAncient Sword Cultββ has spread vast amount of enthusiasm among the fans of Epic Heavy Metal, since it was in the vein and with influences from great acts of the scene, such as BATHORY, ATLANTEAN CODEX, LORDIAN GUARD, IRON GRIFFIN and BLACK SWORD THUNDER ATTACK.
Just seven months after their inaugurating discographic entrance, they are returning with the release of a two β track demo, which contains early versions of two tracks that are still evolving and might eventually end up on WRITHEN HILTβs debut full length album, which I am pretty sure is already highly anticipated.
In this particular demo, WRITHEN HILT continue where they left it off in their EP and offer another couple of marvelous epic heavy metal songs.
The first song ββSwords of the Eastββ start with the sound of sea waves splashing on a shore before the beginning of the music. David Kuriβs aethereal poetic voice leads the way, while the magic guitar of Jendrik Seiler is tuned in a way, which makes some people speaking about a passage of black-metal vibe in their music and they are not mistaken. The song culminates in a melodic yet both anthemic and melancholic chorus, which makes it so unique in its heavenly duality of power and sorrow. The structure of the song is so well crafted, that a lot of kudos need to be granted to the composers.
The second song of the demo, starts with the roar of a war steed and is preparing the listener for what is to follow. The ββRiderβs Moonββ start with a more aggressive and galloping rhythm, with a mixture of NWOBHM and Power Metal elements, concluding again in a fascinating lyrical soaring chorus.
In general, Iβd say that I find the music of WRITHEN HILT quite heroic and romantic. They use their metal to compose poetic anthems, where the lyrical and melancholic portion coexists with the epicness and the primacy, in a way that brings in mind medieval tales, that found their sound-print or artistic expression in the compositions of romantic classic musicβs composers and the aesthetics of the movement of romanticism in the 18th and the 19th century.
Raise your Swords and prepare!
WRITHEN HILT are here to stay and accompany our nights, with a glass of red wine besides the stove in winter-time, with romantic storytelling of battles fought, battles won or lost against ferocious and brutal foes, comrades that have fallen and other tales that offer anticipation for all the forthcoming mighty battles to come in the future and the obstacles to overcome, in order to taste the sweet wine of victory.
ββThe Iron Sparrowββ has been released on the 26th of September 2024 by Jawbreaker Records and is available on MC and Digital format (via Bandcamp / pay what you want).
