It seems that things are happening in the U.S. power/prog camp. Not only there are lots of bands alive and kicking, but there are also plenty of newcomers who keep the flame on. VERITAS is one of these bands, a relatively new gang of prog vagabonds who seek their way into this mysterious music jungle.
And here we have the band’s first demo, a wonderful effort of four songs with the great Mark ZonderΒ (WARLORD, ARRYAN PATH) as a guest drummer (and yes, he makes the difference if you ask me). The band plays a more straightforward type of prog metal that actually reminded me of more late 80’s – early 90’s acts. This means that there is a balance between the edgy aggressive (not modern) riffing and the melodic lyricism that had always characterized progressive metal. Which means that influences of FATES WARNING (“No Exit” era), QUEENSRYCHE and very early DREAM THEATER are more than obvious, without dominating the whole album. Because should you listen more carefully you could spot some traces of early POVERTY’S NO CRIME or ARMORED SAINT or even METAL CHURCH and VICIOUS RUMORS. There is an ongoing U.S. metal sense throughout the songs and a sincere feeling that makes listening to a joyful experience
Of course, four songs are not enough for us to reach a verdict. Yet it is a very promising beginning and a sign that VERITAS is on the right track. I expect lot of things from them.
