Indiana Prog Delight

One of the golden pages of the Progressive Metal underground has been written through the music of INTENSE CONFESSION from Evansville, Indiana, USA.

The “Into the Forbidden” debut LP tape was released independently by the band back in 1990, on 500 cassettes. A great release consisting mainly of instrumental songs that showcased the band’s compositional and performing skills through a unique type of virtuoso, expressive and emotional Prog Metal. A release that opened the road for the masterpiece that followed.

And this masterpiece is no other than the band’s holy grail “Whispers of Fear”, their second full length album that was independently released one year later (1991) on 500 tapes and 500 CDs. Those who are aware of the album can simply confirm that we are talking about a musical miracle. Those who are not aware of it, had better get ready for the ultimate discovery experience of a Progressive Metal classic.

Needless to point out that both the albums are rare as hell on their original pressings.

But now everyone gets the chance to discover the delightful music of this band through this reissue that includes both their full lengths. The band’s complete works are becoming available again through this reissue on Arkeyn Steel Records that highlights their musical legacy.

Both the band’s releases are coming on a double CD.

The music

INTENSE CONFESSION’s music is a wonderful journey through pages of mystery and imagination: Excellent compositions in the vein of the melodic Progressive Metal. Performances full of passion and skill and a very unique type of songwriting that takes the material to the very next level.

A fine example of the golden era of Prog Metal as it was developed around USA from the mid to late 80s till the mid 90s.

I would make a musical connection with DREAM THEATER’s debut album and the music that is included mainly in the “Whispers of Fear” full length. And to make myself clear I am mainly focusing on the overall atmosphere and the vibe of INTENSE CONFENSSION’s music as I am making the above connection. Oh, the gold era of Progressive Metal from United States, when everything was about music and art!

And yes “Days of Yesterday” is one of the best Melodic Prog Metal EVER composed! Well yeap, I said it!

The reissue

“Any more details about the reissue in particular”? I am hearing you asking. Yes I got lots of details to share:

Kostas Scandalis has remastered the audio from the original master tapes at Infinity Studios (Thessaloniki, Greece).

Kostas Arhanasoglou developed the entire artwork, upgrading the original fantasy cover art.

Lyrics, never before seen photos and an in depth biography written by Scott Burnes (bassist) are included.

Conclusion

INTENSE CONFESION were a phenomenal band, their music carries the aura of big, classic bands like HEIR APPARENT, CRIMSON GLORY etc. Do not miss the chance to discover or rediscover them!

I breathe for music. And I am more than sure that my mission in this universe is to make everybody agree that "Awaken The Guardian" by FATES WARNING is the best album ever released, yes in all musical genres. My next mission is to feed homeless cats and when I am not busy with all this stuff I listen to US Prog / Power and Epic Doom Metal. And I cast spells in rituals in order to awake the old ones. After my subscription to the "Happy Otters" team on Facebook.

WARLORD: The legend of William J Tsamis lives – Interview and...

To tell you the truth I was a little bit skeptical when I first learned about the Warlord tribute project set by drummer and founding member Mark Zonder and singer Giles Lavery to honor the music and memory of founder guitarist William J Tsamis who unfortunately passed away back in 2021. I was looking at the facts very closely, reading announcements about forthcoming live shows, new line up and a new album. The response from the fans was massive including both positive and negative (or very negative) comments about the above facts. "How can Warlord exist without Bill Tsamis?", they were asking. One afternoon I got a call from Giles Lavery himself asking me if I wanted to do an advance review of the forthcoming Warlord album. I replied positively still being in this skeptical mood. It all went away after the first listen... William J Tsamis was there. His music, his legend, his compositions, evolved into complete songs. In total excitement I texted Giles a single message "Bill is alive". The very next evening found Mark, Giles and I talking about the album, about Bill, about the music and the legacy. It was late at night when we ended the call. I asked them if I can publish our conversation and they got no problem. So here it is again: Me talking with Warlord. The usual stuff I am doing the last 25 years for various reasons. But this time I would not call this conversation an interview. To my eyes this is a big ethical, artistic and soulful statement, by some people who want to keep the Dream, alive.
